Andy Oliver has some comments on .NET that are just dead on. Next time anybody tries to resurrect one of the various J* vs. .N?T horses for another 40 lashes, I'll just quote Andy. I like the analogy to the Intel 80286, which reminds me of the first battle MS won, where the 286 was the boat anchor around OS/2's neck.

Little Nybbles of Development Wisdom
A bunch of people have been pointing to Terence Parr's Little Nybbles of Development Wisdom (most recently seen at Codaland). This is indeed a great list. I wish I'd had someone beating this into my head a year ago.
Incidentally, there were some harsh words (permalink's broken) for Dare's most recent XML-Schema article over at Codaland. Well, the harshest words were reserved for XML Schema itself. Dare's article's on queue, but I've taken the weekend (mostly) off, so I won't comment on it based on the half page I've read, but I should point out that the quote singled out for criticism ("Do not try to be a master of XML Schema") was actually from Kohsuke Kawaguchi's XML Schema made Simple, so it's not fair to pin that one on Dare.
