Long Weekend
You know you've had a bad weekend when you look forward to going to work on Monday. My daughter Elaina was sick all weekend, as sick as she's ever been. Today I took her to the doctor and he diagnosed an infection in both ears and some sort of viral infection. She was exposed to croup a few days before she got sick, so it could well be croup, but she doesn't have the "barking seal" cough or the stridor. Hopefully the antibiotics will have kicked in tonight and she'll get her first good night's sleep in 4 or 5 days.
I got a laugh out of Peter Provost's post from Friday: "We'll have to see if my daughter...will insist on watching Shrek a few dozen more times". For some reason, my 20 month old daughter hasn't caught the TV bug. I've memorized Eric Carle and Maisy books instead. This weekend she was sick and had a hard time trying to make her happy. In desperation we put in a Sesame Street DVD and she actually watched it for a few minutes. Yesterday I was sitting on the couch and she walked up to the TV, turned it on (she's known that trick for a couple months), turned to me and said "watch it!" and went and sat on the couch with me. That makes me kind of sad. I dropped her off in the church nursery a few weeks ago, and the other kids were watching Veggie Tales. Elaina took one look at the TV and went off to play with the plastic kitchen set. I looked at the other kids, and it was scary, the way they focused on the TV. One was literally slack jawed. It can be tough to get anything done when she wants your attention, but I don't want to face the day when I see Elaina go vegetative in front of the TV.
