Listen To Your Employees
As Dare notes, people need to be reminded of Conditional-GET and GZIP, with respect to RSS, periodically. It's come up again, and people are trying to get the word out again. I'm sort of stunned that Slashdot's CmdrTaco would say "RSS (or as it should be called, "Speedfeed") is such a useful thing, it's unfortunate that it's ultimately just very stupid.", considering his role in such a high-traffic site. OTOH, Slashdot doesn't issue ETags or Last-Modified for their HTML pages either, so at least they're consistent. Ironically, Infoworld's own Jon Udell covered this in RSS Self Defense, almost six months ago. If Chad Dickerson had only listened to Jon Udell...
