False Alarm
Got woken up at 2:30 AM by my wife, who was thinking the baby was going to come into the world shortly. After a vist to the hospital, the docs sent us home. Elaina came < 90 minutes after arriving at the hospital, so we're a little on edge with the 2nd baby. This one might be like the birth scene in Big Fish, we're thinking. But now we're home, sans baby, though short several hours' sleep.
Bearing that in mind, James Snell's HTTP Claim authentication proposal sounds very interesting. James proposes it as an alternative to OpenID, which I've never looked at either, but all this sounds fascinating. At first glance, OpenID seems to operate somewhere above the HTTP level, while James' solution is at the HTTP level. Being something of a networking geek, a new WWW-Authenticate scheme has more appeal. This stuff could certainly be implemented fairly easily in languages I use. With one hand, even. I got pretty good at one handed typing when Elaina was little, it'll be time to brush up on those skills soon enough.
