Dare's post on danah boyd's ETech talk caught my eye for a mostly tangential reason. There was a fairly high profile case in Boulder last week where a defendant was convicted of assault but not racial intimidation on the argument that "nigger" (nigga) isn't necessarily an offensive word.
I guess I'm not nearly as shocked as John Carmichael about Jay Bennish, who was reinstated today to his teaching position. There were several teachers in my high school who loved to derail the class into a funnel for their (sometimes political) views.
