Are You Being Served?
Steve Loughran has a couple funny posts on Windows Server 2003's... "features" - IE's lockdown mode and the Shutdown nag dialog. I've been using Server 2003 for a few weeks - the theory with this is that it's what we run on our production servers, so our development environment should be the same. I'm sure there's a way to eliminate the shutdown nag, I just haven't taken the time to find out. The IE lockdown is a funny thing, though. I don't remember how I managed to get FireFox installed, I may have copied the installer from my old machine. I was fighting with IE's security for a while - I still am. As a result, I use IE only when I'm forced to, usually by MSDN. The funny thing is that I've had to add about half a dozen sites to the "trusted sites" zone just to get MSDN to work correctly. Microsoft's doing a great job of shutting their own sites out of IE.
