It's Google's World

It's funny, a 2-3 years ago, it seemed like everybody (at least among tech bloggers) was going to Microsoft.  Now, it seems like Google's hiring a number of high profile tech bloggers.

Google's all over the news lately.  There's this wireless thing, which Greg Linden commented on.  It's possible that Google's tweaking too many powerful players.  It's just that telcos seem to be vulnerable.  In the US, there's no price competition: everybody charges the same for the same services coupled with universally lousy customer service.  On top of that, telephone service has some degree of regulation.  It may be more the case that Google's grabbing ahold of a tarbaby by trying to get into wireless.

CNN seems to be in love with YouTube.  This is more than just cross-promotion for their debates - the anchors bring up YouTube in their banter between stories practically all the time.  I hear these complaints about the poor still being disenfranchised, that YouTube hasn't changed anything.  I won't dispute that, but I wonder why the poor should necessarily have any greater insight into what to ask the candidates than the non-poor.  Healthcare?  Poverty?  Jobs?  It seems to me that what both parties need is some good answers, not more of the same questions.

Going with the CNN vein, it's very strange, CNN is talking about the "liberal bloggers" like they're an entire voting block all on their own.  The anchor is practically mashing the name into one word liberalbloggers, I'm sure before long it'll get shortened to libloggers or something.  CNN seems to want to embrace online media something fierce.
