Document at Your Own Risk
Russell Beattie is dissing the O’Reilly Webcast on Open Source iPhone development. Seems to me that you’d need to be a bit nuts to bother with iPhone development at this point, for all the reasons Russ states. What’s funny is this comment on the O’Reilly post:
hi there,
reminds me of what Andrew Schulman did with “undocumented windows 95”.
is there a chance that Apple will do what MS did : learn from the hacks to prevent critical hacks from happening ?
Probably the better question is whether Apple will do what MS did: as I recall, Andrew Schulman wasn’t exactly Microsoft’s favorite author after publishing Unauthorized Windows 95. I don’t think it got to the point of a lawsuit, but there was quite a bit of bad blood. Schulman eventually became an expert witness in the Stac vs. MS and Caldera vs. MS lawsuits.
Back then, Schulman’s undoc stuff was gold, but these days, it seems to me that if you’re interested in openness, you should start with an open platform.
